You Skelly?

Hey, readers.  Been pretty chill around here for the past few weeks.  Anyway, I got some new goodies for my bedroom that I wanted to show off.  The first is this reusable shopping bag from Home Goods.  It only costs 99 cents.

The plan is to cut out the design and either frame it or apply it to a piece of canvas and add to it.  Not sure about what to add.  Maybe a glaze.  I have no idea.  But I'll come up with something.

The other thing that I got was a set of sugar skull lights from Rite-Aid.

I'll probably string these along the top of the mirror on the other dresser in my room.  That's it for skull and tell.  Til next time.

Getting There

Hey, readers.  Just wanted to give a little update on how my bedroom is coming along.  Instead of painting the entire room, my mother and I settled on just painting the back wall.  This time, I went with a darker shade of grey instead of a light/silvery grey.  Then, we hung the Bob Macabre prints and Halloween sign.

Once that was done, we decided to add some height to my Trick or Treat sign.

Since I still had some contact paper leftover, we wrapped a spare cardboard box with it and placed it on top of the dresser.  There was plenty of room for the sign, Jack and my new spooky tree.  Speaking of the tree, I got some good news and bad news.  First the bad news.  I wasn't able to fit any of my necklaces on it.

However, my ring and bracelets fit on it perfectly.

Til next time.

Frames and Spooky Goodies

Hey, readers.  In my last blog post, I talked about how my dresser and lamp shade got damaged during the move to the new apartment.  Along with those, the frames containing my Bob Macabre prints also got messed up.  The glass from both frames were smashed to pieces.  But thankfully, the prints were still intact.

I got some new frames last week, and spent yesterday putting the prints in them.

I was able to save the tissue paper that I had used in the old frames.  However, I came across a minor problem.  The print on the right used to be in a smaller frame.  With that one, the green tissue paper in the center was enough to cover the backing that came with it.  To cover up the exposed cardboard box brown backing of the new frame, I got out some more tissue paper and came up with this random pattern.

While I was doing that, my mother had returned from running errands.  During her run, she had stopped in a thrift store and got me a couple of Halloween-themed items to go with my dark bedroom decor.

When she showed them to me, I squeed with delight.  My favorite out of the two was the tree.  It looked like something I might be able to hang my necklaces off of. That would help with making some more room in my small jewelry box.  Til next time.

Minor Touch-Up

Hey, readers.  Welcome back to Aji's Decorating Corner.  If you read my previous post, you'll know that I recently moved.  Most of my bedroom furniture made it here in one piece.  The only items that took some damage were the shade on my small lamp and my dresser.

In this post, I'll be focusing on the dresser.  When it was being moved, some of the black paint on it got scrapped off and some white paint also got scrapped onto it.  I honestly have no idea how the white paint got there.  Originally, I was going to get some black paint and touch-up the damage.  However, after taking a step back and looking at it, I saw that the dresser now had a cool distressed look.

So, I decided to leave the front and sides as is.  However, the top of the dresser just looks like a cat scratched it up.

The good news about where I'm living is that there's a dollar store right down the street.  So, I went there and picked up a roll of patterned contact paper.

The edges of the paper didn't come out as neatly as I wanted.  Maybe I could use washi tape to cover those parts up.  Or something else.  An idea will come to me sooner or later.

For now, the top of the dresser has been taken care of. Next on the to-do list is finally getting around to replacing the old drawer pulls with the glass ones that I got for Christmas.  Til next time.

Creepy Cloth, Net Lights and Tinsel! Oh My!

Hey, readers.  Today's post is an Aji's Decorating Corner update.  Last night, I finally got around to putting up the creepy cloth behind my bed.  But that's not all I did.  Since it's the holiday season, my mother came up with the awesome idea to hang up a set a net lights behind the cloth.

Not only would this make my gothy bedroom look a little festive, but the lights would also serve as nighttime lighting.  So, no need for a lamp.  Once the net lights and creepy cloth was up, my mother framed it out with some silver tinsel garland.  This is what it looks like with the net lights off.

And this is what it looks like with them on.

As you can see from the top photo, I still haven't spray painted my headboard black yet.  But I'll get around to doing it eventually.  Anyway, after we took care of the area behind my bed, we spiced up my entertainment area with some more silver tinsel garland and a set of star lights.  Check it out.

Lights off.

Lights on.

I love how both areas turned out.  Since the tinsel garland goes with my color scheme, and the lights add a nice touch of ambiance, I plan on keeping them up after the holidays are over.  My bedroom will be both dark and quirky. XD  Next on the bedroom design agenda is finding somewhere to hang this piece of cuteness.

One of my mother's co-workers is retiring, and moving out of state.  So, she gave her some of her old holiday decorations.  This sign was one of them.  When my mother showed it to me, I immediately called dibs on it.  That's it for another rousing episode of Aji's Decorating Corner.

Til next time.

Imperfectly Perfect

Hey, readers.  Yesterday, I did some touch-up work on my bedroom walls.  I even managed to paint the sides of the heater without getting white paint all over the walls.  However, once those 2 small tasks were taken care of, I started to notice other things that sent me into painting overdrive.

The previous person/people who lived here had cable wire running along the baseboards and door frames.  I could of just took the wire down.  But then that would of left small holes in the walls, which would need to be filled.  Then, put more holes in the wall when the cable wire was put back up.  Vicious cycle.

So, when my mother was doing the trim, she did her best to get the brush underneath the wire in order to get the color on.  She ended up doing a pretty good job.  However, I noticed a few spots that she couldn't get to, and that started to bother me.  I'm wired strangely.  A lot of the time, I can be very nitpicky and OCD.

I have to have things done a certain way or it will drive me crazy.  I don't know why.  That's just how I am.  So, I tried my best to paint those areas.  Then, I spotted other tiny areas that needed to be painted.

Finally, after obsessively trying to get the walls perfect, I had to stop myself.  I realized I was needlessly driving myself crazy.  The walls looked great.  Yes, there are still tiny signs of the old paint color showing.  And yes, when my mother did the trim, she did get a little bit of the new color on the door and window frames.

But so what?  After stepping back and looking around the room, I think that the little imperfections add charm.  I describe the style as goth/shabby chic/messy.  Not only does this label describe my bedroom design, it also pretty much describes me. XD

In short, what I'm trying to say is don't sweat the small stuff.  Don't let minor things that are out of your control drive you crazy.  If you come across a tiny obstacle, do your best to use it to your advantage and work around it.  So ends another segment of Aji's Decorating Corner.  Thanks for taking the time to read my long-ass rant. XD

Til next time.

It Continues

Hey, readers.  Work on my bedroom is still in progress.  On Thursday, I got a new comforter set for my bed.  I wasn't able to find one that was completely black.  So, I settled for one with a white pattern on it.

What drew my eye to this comforter set was that it had a similar pattern to one of the storage cubes that I keep in my closet.  The other thing that I really liked about this set was that it came with an orange pillow and throw.  Perfect for Halloween.  Upon further inspection, I noticed that the front of the pillow had a small pocket on it.  There was just enough room to stuff Lord Vader into it. XD

Today, my mother painted my chest of drawers black with a couple of cans of semi-gloss spray paint.  It came out great.  No sanding or priming required.  You can see a picture of it on my instagram page.  That concludes another episode of Aji's Decorating Corner.

Til next time.

Design Burn

Evening, readers.  I return with an Aji's Decorating Corner update.  Yep.  That's what I'm calling it.  Because I'm weird like that.

Over the Labor Day weekend, my bedroom walls got painted a nice light gray/silver color.  My mother did the trim, and I painted the rest of the walls.  Some touch-up work needs to be done.  But overall, the walls are finished.

Today, I tackled painting the heater white.  I did the front of it, but decided to leave the sides for my mother to do.  I didn't want to risk messing up the walls.  New black curtains were put up yesterday.  However, we took them down so we could add some silver panels between them that my mother got from one of her co-workers.

She also gave her a teal throw pillow.  Since it didn't fit her room decor, my mother gave it to me to put on my bed.  Now, here comes the burn part.  After I said that I liked the curtains and pillow, and had no problem with including them into my room design, my mother seemed relieved.  Then, commented that my room needed more color.

I already have planned in my head how I'm going to introduce color into my room.  I tried explaining that to my mother, and she just laughed it off.  She clearly doesn't think I know how to decorate my own fucking bedroom.  That kind of hurt my feelings.  Just because some things aren't to her taste doesn't make them wrong.

It's my room.  I'll decorate it how I damn well please.  Anyway, I've been posting pics of my progress on my instagram page.  So, if you want to see what I've done so far, you can see on there.  Once everything's done, I'll post pics of the finished product here.

Til next time.

Filling the Void

Hello, readers.  Today was a good day.  A family friend gifted me with some used furniture.  A bed and a chest of drawers.  My bedroom is finally starting to look like a bedroom.

For the bed, the original idea was to spray paint the brass headboard black.  But my mother suggested that we pad it and cover it in black fabric instead.  Both ideas sound good.  So, either way works for me.

As for the chest of drawers, they're definitely getting painted black.  I'm also thinking about replacing the current knobs with glass ones.  Other plans include painting the walls a silver/gray color, and putting up black curtains.  That's all for Aji's Decorating Corner.  Til next time. XD
