Goodbye, 2015
This year has been a mixed bag of depression and disappointment. It's been one letdown after another. The only highlight of this year for me was The Black Rose naming my blog as one of the 20 Best Goth and Alternative Blogs of 2015. So, I'll be looking at the coming new year with a bit of skepticism.

A Wild Aji Appears
Hello, readers. Been pretty quiet over here on my end. Sorry about that. Writer's block has struck again. Other than that, I had a super low key birthday celebration earlier this week.
My mother fixed a special dinner, bought a cake, and got me a few things off my wishlist. That was pretty much it. Anyway, I have a question for you all. Are there any goth/alternative topics that you would like for me to cover? If so, let me know in the comments.
Now, I'm off to watch some videos on youtube and veg out. Til next time.

New Link
Afternoon, all. I just added a new link to my link list called "STUFF THAT I SUPPORT." Under it, I'll be posting links to crowdfunding sites for projects that I'm really interested in and want to help make happen. The first link that I posted is to an indiegogo campaign for the book "Midnight, Me & Bob Macabre."
From the Bob Macabre indiegogo page:
The book is about a little boy named Vex, who has violent night terrors riddled with "Spookies." The night terrors are so bad that the Spookies invade his waking world. On top of being taunted by the foul creatures, everyone refuses to believe Vex. Even his Mum and little sister Twink think he's crazy...poor kid.
Enter Bob Macabre - infamous Spookie Wrangler and head of the Nightmare World. Bob teaches Vex how to conquer his fears and defeat the Spookies through a series of adventures.
If you're interested and want to help make this book happen, head on over to the Midnight, Me and Bob Macabre indiegogo campaign page and donate.

Nemeses and Pretty Devils
Alt-Goth artist, Jules Marie is back with another musical offering. A 5 track album titled "The Nemesis Effect." This album contains the same dark, ambient sound as her previous works. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that a couple of the tracks had a bit of a hard rock edge to them. To get a free digital copy of "The Nemesis Effect," click the link below.
Also, have you gotten your hands on Dr. Death and Mr. Vile's latest album yet? If not, go to their page and download "The Pretty Little Devils." Both of these artists are great and are worth checking out.

Sucky Week Ahead
Uuuuuugh. This week is going to be a depressing one. I'm still trying to find somebody to take me to Necrocomiccon and that's coming up empty. I'm also flat broke. So, no spending money.
On top of that, I have nothing to wear to the con. The majority of my clothes are in storage. Whenever a cool event is happening near me, there's always something in my way that keeps me from attending. This really, really sucks.

Attempting to Adult
Happy Labor Day, readers. If you're a regular reader of my blog, you'll notice that I have a new header. I figured it was time for a change. The old header was just something that I put together on paint. While it did the job, I wasn't that satisfied with it. I wanted a header that looked more professional.
So, I opened up picmonkey and went to work. After a few design changes, I came up with what is now the new header. While I was still in a creative mood, I also went ahead and redesigned the banner that I use to advertise my blog. I made 2 versions of it. The first one is serving as the cover photo for my fb page and the other one serves as my signature on forum sites.
That was pretty much how I spent my Labor Day weekend. How about you?

Gothabilly Avatar
A few days ago, the avatar site that I hang out on released a victory rolls hairstyle and a pin-up dress. They had already released a pair of creepers a few months back. So, I decided to go ahead and attempt to create a gothabilly look for my avatar. I came up with a look in 2 different color schemes. One in gray and one in blue.
I wanted to add a spiked collar to both looks. However, the spiked collars that are currently available on the site are way too bulky and make it look like your avatar doesn't have a neck. So, I settled for a simple choker. I think I did a pretty decent job. What do you think?

Over the weekend, I got some more jewelry crafting done. Finally completed the glass ring project that I started back in September. If you want to see how they turned out, you can find a pic of them on my instagram page. In other news, I decided to go ahead and buy my domain name. Now, my blog can be found at either www.cafelastrange.com or at cafelastrange.com.

Sorry for the lack of blog updates lately. Haven't really had anything interesting to blog about and I've been a bit depressed. A lot of personal issues have been gnawing at me for the last few weeks. Hoping to get myself out of this funk and post more in the future.

Spooky Tunes
Happy Day After World Goth Day, all. If you're into listening to music about things that go bump in the night, I recommend listening to The Long Losts. They're a goth, punk and rock & roll band that celebrates all things Halloween, Autumn, horror and romance. The band's sound consists of haunting vocals, spooky keyboards, horror sound effects over rock, metal, punk guitar, bass and drum rhythms with lyrics to match.
If you're interested in purchasing The Longs Losts debut album, "Scary Songs to Play in the Dark," head on over to their bandcamp site. There, you'll have the option of buying either the CD or digital album. But wait! There's more!
Want to see The Long Losts live? Well, good news. They'll be performing this September at Voltaire's Necrocomiccon: Enter the Black Labyrinth. Still haven't gotten your tickets yet? Then, hurry up and CLICK HERE!!!

What's Up? What's Down?
Last week was kind of screwy. On the upside, I signed up for instagram, got some work done on my latch hook project, applied for be a Spooky Box Club reviewer and had plans to go with my cousin to see Avengers: Age of Ultron. Then, towards the weekend, things took a hard left.
Saturday morning, my mother and I had an eviction scare. There was a lot of fast packing and calling of family members for help involved. Luckily, rent money was scrounged up at the last minute. So, no panic moving for us. As for going to the movies, that didn't happen.
My cousin and I were originally going to go see Age of Ultron on Friday. She sends me a text Friday morning telling me that she forgot she had a doctor's appointment that day and asked if we could go on Saturday. I agreed and went back to sleep. Saturday rolls around and she forgot again.
She made all these other plans. When, I called her out on it, she tried to squeeze it in to her schedule. Already feeling aggravated and annoyed about the packing/unpacking and other family drama, I declined her offer. Don't fucking make plans with me to do something if you're just going to flake out.

A Necrocomiccon Miracle
Last week, something happened that I did not see coming. I was given 2 free tickets to Voltaire's Necrocomiccon: Enter the Black Labyrinth. This is the best news that I have ever gotten. I immediately started flailing around like a muppet. This is going to be the first comic convention that I have ever been to.
I'm finally going to get to meet Voltaire and learn the secret handshake. Told my brother about this over the weekend and he said he'd go with me. Also, as an early birthday present, he said he would get me a room at the hotel where the convention is going to be held so I can at least spend 2 days there. As awesome as that is, I want to take part in all 3 days of the event.
So, I'm going to have to get my hustle on and come up with the money for one more night. I also need some spending money for convention swag. Hoping to make this happen before September rolls around. You may now return to your regularly scheduled activities.

Binge-Listening and Binge-Reading
Yo-ho, folks. Another weekend is coming to an end. I finally found out how to turn the heat down in my motel room. Now, it no longer feels like a sweat box. Besides that, I spent the weekend doing some music binge-listening and webcomic binge-reading.
Spent all of Friday listening to Dr. Death and Mr. Vile. This duo hails from Denver, Colorado. Their music is an awesome mix of dark synth pop with a bit of an 80's overtone. These guys are definitely worth a listen. You can download their music for free on their bandcamp site.
I followed up my binge-listening with some binge-reading of the webcomic Mary Death. It's about a girl named Mary who happens to be best friends with Death. I spent all of Saturday night reading through the entire archive. Some strips will make you laugh. Some will make you cry. Others will leave you scratching your head.
That's all I have to share with you for now. Toodles.

Labels and Tour Dates
Once again, I have discovered another blog feature. One that can help with finding certain posts. The "Labels" feature. I spent most of yesterday going through every single one of my posts and adding labels to them. I'm a bit of an organizational freak. Now, you can filter out blog posts of interest by clicking on certain labels.
Anyway, on to the good stuff. More dates have been added to the Voltaire & Ego Likeness Forgotten Cities tour.

Errands and Other Things
Today, I stepped out of the sweat box that is my motel room and headed over to the nearby FedEx to make some copies. That little trip turned out to be a bust. The copy machines that they had there didn't accept cash or change. They only accepted credit/debit cards. I tried swiping my card like 10 times on 2 different copy machines and neither one could read it.
So, no copies from FedEx for me. Guess I'll just ask my mother if she can make some copies for me at her job. In other news, I finally have a latch hook. That mean's I can finally start working on that skull and crossbones latch hook pattern that I got for Christmas. Haven't done any latch hooking in ages. Hope my skills aren't too rusty.

Did Some Tweaking
Made some minor changes to the site layout again so it looks a bit more streamlined. Moved the "Follow by Email" bar over to the left, added a "Search This Blog" bar above the blog archive and changed the look of the pageview counter. I also added some links right below the header to other sites that I frequent. So, if you're ever on one of those other sites and see me online, feel free to say "Hi" or offer me an endless supply of coffee. Or both. XD

Neck Decor
Yesterday, I decided to try my hand at making a necklace. The Good News: It looked awesome. The Bad News: It didn't fit around my neck. So today, I ended up taking it apart and redoing it. This time, I made sure to measure the wire a few times before cutting it. Check it.
Splendid, isn't it? I think so. In the past few weeks, I have successfully made 2 pairs of earrings, 2 bracelets and a necklace. Once I finally settle down in my new place, I'm going to stock up on some more materials and try to start up a jewelry business.

All Set
Yesterday, I finally got my hands on a bottle of clear polish for knot sealing. So today, I finished up making matching bracelets for the 2 pairs of earrings that I made a couple of weeks ago. This is the set that I made for myself.
And here's the set that I plan to sell.
Now, I just need to work on building a customer base. Pretty sure my mother knows some people at her job who will be interested in buying my jewelry. Fingers crossed.

More Earrings!
Today, I made 2 more pairs of earrings. After realizing that I had used different colored pins when I made the first pair, I took them apart and used a couple of the beads from that to make a new pair. This time, I made sure that both pins were the same color and added some leaf charms. In my opinion, these came out a lot better than the first pair.
For the third pair, I went with some brighter colored beads.
Had a hard time with the bottom pieces. But once I got that under control, I was able to finish the earrings without a problem. Awesome job, if I do say so myself. Next, I plan to make a matching bracelet. Then, see if I can sell them as a set.

Not Too Shabby
Earlier today, I finally got around to opening my jewelry making kit. After going over the instructions a few times, I attempted to make a pair of earrings. Here's the end result.
Struggled a bit with looping the ends of the head and eye pins, but I think they came out pretty good. Not bad for my first time. With a little more practice, I should have a better handle on the looping. If all goes well, I'll hopefully be able to start up my own jewelry making business.

Do You Know What Today Is?
It's my blog's anniversary. Anniversary. Do you know what today is? It's my blog's anniversary. Made for you and me. See what I did there? XD
Formally known as Caffeine's Cafe, Cafe LaStrange is officially a year old. Considering that I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time, I think I've done a pretty good job of running this blog. For those of you that enjoy reading it, I just want to say thank you. I really appreciate it and hope to have some more cool things to share with you in the future.
To celebrate this occasion, here's the song that inspired the title for this entry. Enjoy.

Derp
Finished up the DIY work on my messenger bag and was going to show you lovelies pics of the end result. However, in the middle of taking the pictures, my webcam decided to crap out on me. Looks like it's back to taking pics with my mother's iphone. I'll try to have them up sometime this week. In other news, my new year is off to a crappy start.
My mother and I have been packing up stuff in the apartment because the shit landlord wants us out by the first of next month. On top of that, we have no idea where we're gonna go. This is a bit of a scary time for me. Hopefully, it will all work out and we'll be able to find a place before the beginning of next month. Optimism, don't fail me now!

Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2015. Hope you all had a fun New Years Eve. Make any resolutions? As for me, I maintain the track record of not making any resolutions. No offense to those who make them, but I always thought that New Years resolutions were bullshit. However, I did make up a little to-do list of things that I want to get done.
- Crack open my jewelry making kit and start churning out some awesome jewelry.
- Buy a latch hook for my latch hook kit.
- Learn more about film making.
- Create more stencils for t-shirts designs.
