Peace Out, 2016!

Hey, readers.  Happy New Year's Eve.  With you-know-who winning the election, and the grim reaper cleaning house in Hollywood, we can agree that 2016 wasn't that great of a year.  But now, on to something completely different.  Let's talk Christmas!

Mine was good.  My mother put together a kick-ass spread, and I got some cool gifts.  Expect a haul post in the near future.  Hope everybody has a fun New Year's Eve/Day.  Til next time.

Christmas Prep Work

Hey, readers.  Christmas is almost here.  Spent the last couple of days doing some last minute gift shopping, wrapping said gifts, and making jewelry.  While I was out with my mother and brother, we stopped in a craft store so I could get myself a set of craft pliers.

During my tool search, my mother came across an owl pendant.  Since one of my cousins is into owls, she suggested that I make a necklace for her.  I already had a chain and some clasps back at home. So, making one wouldn't be a problem.  Especially since one of the pliers from the new set that I bought were a flat nose pair.

No more damaging my nails when working with split rings.  Since no one in my family really checks out my blog, I feel it's safe to post a pic of the finished product.

Along with the necklace, I also made a bracelet to go with it.

That's all for now.  Hope you all have a happy holiday.  Til next time.

Creepy Cloth, Net Lights and Tinsel! Oh My!

Hey, readers.  Today's post is an Aji's Decorating Corner update.  Last night, I finally got around to putting up the creepy cloth behind my bed.  But that's not all I did.  Since it's the holiday season, my mother came up with the awesome idea to hang up a set a net lights behind the cloth.

Not only would this make my gothy bedroom look a little festive, but the lights would also serve as nighttime lighting.  So, no need for a lamp.  Once the net lights and creepy cloth was up, my mother framed it out with some silver tinsel garland.  This is what it looks like with the net lights off.

And this is what it looks like with them on.

As you can see from the top photo, I still haven't spray painted my headboard black yet.  But I'll get around to doing it eventually.  Anyway, after we took care of the area behind my bed, we spiced up my entertainment area with some more silver tinsel garland and a set of star lights.  Check it out.

Lights off.

Lights on.

I love how both areas turned out.  Since the tinsel garland goes with my color scheme, and the lights add a nice touch of ambiance, I plan on keeping them up after the holidays are over.  My bedroom will be both dark and quirky. XD  Next on the bedroom design agenda is finding somewhere to hang this piece of cuteness.

One of my mother's co-workers is retiring, and moving out of state.  So, she gave her some of her old holiday decorations.  This sign was one of them.  When my mother showed it to me, I immediately called dibs on it.  That's it for another rousing episode of Aji's Decorating Corner.

Til next time.

Mini Birthday Gift Haul 2016

Hey, readers.  Yesterday was my birthday.  I turned the big 33.  In honor of the occasion, my mother cooked a celebratory dinner.  Then, me and some of my friends hopped onto plug.dj and played music late into the night.

Along with the awesome meal, my mother also got me a few gifties.  First up is this cute jewelry box.  It's perfect for my smaller pieces of jewelry.  Still need to find something bigger for my spiked accessories though.

The next thing I got was an itunes gift card.  I really like the colors on it.  Think I'll hold onto it for a future craft project after I redeem the code.

Time for the grand finale!  *drum roll*  The final gift I got was.....TWO PACKS OF ANDES!!!  Besides candy corn, these are my favorite sweets. =D

Well, that's it for my mini birthday gift haul.  For my next blog post, I'm thinking about doing the "What's in my bag?" tag.  If you're interested in seeing a post on that, let me know in the comments.  Til next time.

Imperfectly Perfect

Hey, readers.  Yesterday, I did some touch-up work on my bedroom walls.  I even managed to paint the sides of the heater without getting white paint all over the walls.  However, once those 2 small tasks were taken care of, I started to notice other things that sent me into painting overdrive.

The previous person/people who lived here had cable wire running along the baseboards and door frames.  I could of just took the wire down.  But then that would of left small holes in the walls, which would need to be filled.  Then, put more holes in the wall when the cable wire was put back up.  Vicious cycle.

So, when my mother was doing the trim, she did her best to get the brush underneath the wire in order to get the color on.  She ended up doing a pretty good job.  However, I noticed a few spots that she couldn't get to, and that started to bother me.  I'm wired strangely.  A lot of the time, I can be very nitpicky and OCD.

I have to have things done a certain way or it will drive me crazy.  I don't know why.  That's just how I am.  So, I tried my best to paint those areas.  Then, I spotted other tiny areas that needed to be painted.

Finally, after obsessively trying to get the walls perfect, I had to stop myself.  I realized I was needlessly driving myself crazy.  The walls looked great.  Yes, there are still tiny signs of the old paint color showing.  And yes, when my mother did the trim, she did get a little bit of the new color on the door and window frames.

But so what?  After stepping back and looking around the room, I think that the little imperfections add charm.  I describe the style as goth/shabby chic/messy.  Not only does this label describe my bedroom design, it also pretty much describes me. XD

In short, what I'm trying to say is don't sweat the small stuff.  Don't let minor things that are out of your control drive you crazy.  If you come across a tiny obstacle, do your best to use it to your advantage and work around it.  So ends another segment of Aji's Decorating Corner.  Thanks for taking the time to read my long-ass rant. XD

Til next time.

It Continues

Hey, readers.  Work on my bedroom is still in progress.  On Thursday, I got a new comforter set for my bed.  I wasn't able to find one that was completely black.  So, I settled for one with a white pattern on it.

What drew my eye to this comforter set was that it had a similar pattern to one of the storage cubes that I keep in my closet.  The other thing that I really liked about this set was that it came with an orange pillow and throw.  Perfect for Halloween.  Upon further inspection, I noticed that the front of the pillow had a small pocket on it.  There was just enough room to stuff Lord Vader into it. XD

Today, my mother painted my chest of drawers black with a couple of cans of semi-gloss spray paint.  It came out great.  No sanding or priming required.  You can see a picture of it on my instagram page.  That concludes another episode of Aji's Decorating Corner.

Til next time.

Design Burn

Evening, readers.  I return with an Aji's Decorating Corner update.  Yep.  That's what I'm calling it.  Because I'm weird like that.

Over the Labor Day weekend, my bedroom walls got painted a nice light gray/silver color.  My mother did the trim, and I painted the rest of the walls.  Some touch-up work needs to be done.  But overall, the walls are finished.

Today, I tackled painting the heater white.  I did the front of it, but decided to leave the sides for my mother to do.  I didn't want to risk messing up the walls.  New black curtains were put up yesterday.  However, we took them down so we could add some silver panels between them that my mother got from one of her co-workers.

She also gave her a teal throw pillow.  Since it didn't fit her room decor, my mother gave it to me to put on my bed.  Now, here comes the burn part.  After I said that I liked the curtains and pillow, and had no problem with including them into my room design, my mother seemed relieved.  Then, commented that my room needed more color.

I already have planned in my head how I'm going to introduce color into my room.  I tried explaining that to my mother, and she just laughed it off.  She clearly doesn't think I know how to decorate my own fucking bedroom.  That kind of hurt my feelings.  Just because some things aren't to her taste doesn't make them wrong.

It's my room.  I'll decorate it how I damn well please.  Anyway, I've been posting pics of my progress on my instagram page.  So, if you want to see what I've done so far, you can see on there.  Once everything's done, I'll post pics of the finished product here.

Til next time.

Birthday Party Shenanigans

Hey there, readers.  Last night, I attended my cousin's 80's/90's themed birthday party.  I'm not much of a dancer.  So, I spent the majority of the evening listening to the music and hoarding candy from the candy bar.

Here's a few shots of the candy bar.  Excuse the blurriness of the photos.  The flash function on the phone didn't work.

I was feeling a little on edge.  So, I got myself a pack of smokes to help get me through the evening. XD

Til next time.

Filling the Void

Hello, readers.  Today was a good day.  A family friend gifted me with some used furniture.  A bed and a chest of drawers.  My bedroom is finally starting to look like a bedroom.

For the bed, the original idea was to spray paint the brass headboard black.  But my mother suggested that we pad it and cover it in black fabric instead.  Both ideas sound good.  So, either way works for me.

As for the chest of drawers, they're definitely getting painted black.  I'm also thinking about replacing the current knobs with glass ones.  Other plans include painting the walls a silver/gray color, and putting up black curtains.  That's all for Aji's Decorating Corner.  Til next time. XD

And I'm Back

Hey, readers.  Haven't been around much lately because my mother and I recently moved into a new place and didn't have any internet.  Still don't have any internet of our own, but our upstairs neighbor was nice enough to let us use his wi-fi.  Internet shenanigans ahoy!

Since plug.dj is back up and running, I might hold a little online housewarming party on there.  If that happens, I'll post a link on facebook and twitter.  So, keep your eyes peeled.  Til next time.

Spooky Entertainment

Hey, readers.  Today, I'm taking a detour from misery lane to bring you a bit of spooky gaming news.  If you enjoy ghosts and flash games, then I think you'll really like Haunt the House.  In the game, you play a ghost living in an old house.  The objective is to scare all of the people that are inside of it out.

While the objective seems simple, it's a bit tricky.  You have to scare the people just enough that they run out of the house.  However, if you scare them to badly, they kill themselves by jumping out of windows.  The number of people that kill themselves effects your score.  So, be careful.

I found the game to be a fun time killer.  You can find it for free online or get it for your PC/console.  Til next time.

Walls are Closing In

Hey, readers.  For the past few weeks, I've been dealing with some personal issues that have left me feeling really down and stressed out.  It's like I'm in this void where nothing I say or do matters.  I hate this feeling.  Go away, feeling.

To distract myself, I've been doing a lot of youtube watching and podcast listening.  Again, I'm sorry about the lack of updates.  Really hoping to get back into the swing of things soon.  What do you like to do when you're feeling down?  Let me know in the comments.

What to Do? What to Do?

Hello, readers.  Lately, I've been in a blogging funk.  This is mostly due to a halt in my DIY activities and other factors that I don't want to get into.  A few weeks ago, I discovered that my laptop had a voice recording program on it.  Must of sneaked its way in when I upgraded to Windows 10.

Anyway, for the past week, I've been toying with the idea of doing voice recordings on topics dealing with the goth subculture; and other alternative subcultures.  What do you think?  Would you want to hear my random babbling on gothy things?  If so, what would you like me to talk about?  Let me know in the comments.

You can also post your suggestions on my facebook and twitter page.  #gothbabble

Pastel Punk?

Well, I did it again.  I entered an avatar into another avatar contest.  This time, the theme was pastel punk.  At the time, I didn't know if it was an actual trend or if it was a theme made up by the contest creator.

Without even bothering to do a quick google search, I came up with a look that I thought fell under the theme of pastel punk and entered it.  Here's my handiwork.

She looks like she could be a member of Jem and the Holograms.  The cartoon, not that heinous movie.  Anyway, as usual, I didn't place.  But as I was looking at the winners and other contestants, I noticed that most of them looked more pastel goth than pastel punk.  When I finally did do a google search on it, I came across the same thing.

The majority of the images on the page looked more pastel goth than pastel punk.  I don't get it.  Seems like a lot of subcultures are getting pastel counterparts these days.  What's next?  Pastel hip-hop?

Strange Entities

Hi-hi, readers.  Today, I'll be giving 2 reviews.  The first review is for UnLuckables.  This site is part of the Little Bit Creepie series by Kristie Silva.  It has a gallery that showcases different types of UnLuckables that you can purchase as prints.

What are UnLuckables?  They're creatures that are part monster and part voodoo doll.  I find these things to be fucking adorable.  Like this little cutie below.

I definitely suggest checking out the site.  You might come across a UnLuckable that you'll want to take home.  On to the next review.  This one is for My Own Sorrow's latest album, "The Entity."

It's another dark masterpiece.  Some songs will make you want to dance.  Others will make you want to go out into the woods and perform a ritual.  It's a good balance.  To get your own copy of "The Entity", click here.

That's it for my double review.  Til next time.  (Note to self: Come up with a better closing phrase. XP)

Note: I did not take the picture shown in this blog post.  The image is from UnLuckables.

Pastel Goth

A couple of days ago, on the avatar site that I like to hangout on, I entered my avi into a pastel goth themed contest.  This trend isn't really my thing.  I like pastel colors.  But I prefer them in small doses.  I just entered the contest out of boredom.

Anyway, this is the look that I submitted.

I don't really know much about pastel goth.  But I think I did a nice job with this look.  Sadly, I didn't place.  Ever since they revamped the avatar contest feature earlier this year, I've only placed twice.  Eh, oh well.

My next  blog post will probably be a review of My Own Sorrow's new album.  If not, I'll just post something totally random instead.  I'm such a spazz.  Til next time.

For the Darkly Inclined

Hello, readers.  Want to find more media that shares your interests in all things dark?  Then, I recommend checking out The Belfry Network.  It's a site that provides links to blogs, podcasts, and videos that cater to dark culture.  The site is run by a guy called The Count, who also has a podcast called Cemetery Confessions.

The podcast delves into news related to the goth community.  I've only listened to a couple of episodes so far, but I found them to be very informative and entertaining.  Well, that's all I have to share with you today.  Til next time.

Q & A

Hey, readers.  It's Q & A time.  Below I'll be answering the questions that one of my followers has posted.  *waves to Sylvie*

Q: Where are you from?
A: I am from and still reside in the mysterious land known as New Jersey.

Q: Do you have an embarrassing baby bat story?
A: That's kind of hard to answer.  I don't think I ever had a baby bat phase.  When I was in my teens, I considered myself to be an alternative kid.  Sometimes, I dressed in a way that could be considered goth.  Other times, I didn't.

I experimented with and tried out different looks back then.  It wasn't til my early twenties that I started to fall more into goth.  The closest thing that I have to an embarrassing baby bat story was when I became a big fan of using black eyeliner to outline my lips before putting on lipstick.  This was back in my high school days.  Sometimes, I would put the liner on way too thick and my lips ended up looking weird.

Q: Who is your favorite Muppet?
A: Miss Piggy.

Q: What are your non-goth confessions?
A: - I don't watch a lot of horror movies.  I can handle watching certain ones.  Others I avoid because they're straight-up nightmare fuel.

- I love Hello Kitty.

- I CAN'T STAND SPIDERS!!!

- I enjoy watching MLP: Friendship is Magic.

Q: Bats or crows?
A: I'm not a pet person.  So, neither.  But aesthetic-wise, bats.

Q: Where is your favorite cemetery?
A: I don't have a favorite cemetery.

Q: What is your favorite band?
A: I don't have one favorite band.  So, I'm going to name my top 3 favorite bands.  The Killers, Dr. Death & Mr. Vile and Matchbox Twenty.

Q: Black cats or black hell hounds?
A: Again, as pets, neither.  Aesthetic-wise, black cats.

That's it for my first Q & A.  Depending on how many people are interested, I might do it again in the future.  Til next time.  *waves*
