B-Day Rundown

Hey, readers.  Had myself a pretty chill birthday weekend.  On Friday, my cousin took me to see Justice League.  We went to one of those dine-in theaters and had at drink at the bar before it started.  Then, we got our dinner on while watching the movie.

I'll say this about Justice League, it was pretty okay.  It wasn't something to write home about.  But it was definitely better than BvS: Dawn of Justice.  The movie got a few chuckles out of me, and would be something I'd watch again if it was on TV.  The following Sunday, some of my other family members came over to celebrate.

My mother cooked some appetizers and they, per my request, brought Chinese take-out.  Once again, due to a lack of communication, I wound up with 2 cakes.  Score.  An awesome Sunday was had.  Now, onto the gifts.

Most of the gifts I received were some clothing essentials that I needed.  So, I'm just gonna skip telling you about those and show you my top 2 favorite non-clothing items.  A sugar skull mug and a new Rocky Horror Picture Show DVD to replace the one that I lost.

Got any plans for Thanksgiving?  Let me know in the comments.  Til next time.

Aji's Birthday Mix '17

Hey, readers!  It is officially my birthday!  To celebrate this momentous occasion, I decided to create a playlist.  So, get on the imaginary dance floor and shake it!  Or stir it.

Or swoon like a weeping willow.  Or stand in the corner and smoke cloves.  Do whatever you want.  Happy listening!

Beep, Beep!

Hey, readers.  Didn't know what to title this post.  So, I just came up with something random.  Anyway, nothing super interesting to post about.  Got to see Thor Ragnarok last weekend.

It was definitely better than the previous Thor films.  Also got a birthday coming up next week.  I'll be turning the big 34.  It falls on the same day that Justice League comes out.  Might be seeing that to celebrate the occasion.

That's all I have to report for now.  Til next time.

This is Halloween!

Hey, readers.  Happy Halloween!  I'm going to be spending it munching on candy corn and binge-watching season 2 of Stranger Things.  What about you?  How will you be spending Halloween?

Let me know in the comments.  Til next time.

Craft Along with GIY: Black and White

http://gothityourself.blogspot.com/p/craft-along-with-giy.html

Hey, readers.  It is Craft Along time once again.  This month's theme is Black and White.  For over 3 years, I've had this assortment of large black and white beads that I had no idea what to do with.  After looking them over, an idea finally came to me.

"Necklace!"  So, I pulled out the necklace wire and went to work.  The first time I worked with this wire, I cut it too short and ended up redoing the whole necklace.  This time around, I measured the length of it multiple times to ensure that it would fit around my neck.  Here are the fruits of my labor.

It...looks...awesome.  Didn't know if the silver accents counted against the theme, but I added them anyway.  Again, it...looks...awesome.  Til next time.

A Bloody Good Time

Hey, readers.  I was contacted by SMT Entertainment, and they asked if I could share this cool event on my blog.  That's right, I be shilling for "The Man" now.  I await your hate mail. XD Anyway, on to the event.

It's called the Endless Night Vampire Ball.  This year, it's being held in New Orleans at the House of Blues.  Performers for the event include The Cruxshadows, DJ Angel and others.  Opening ceremonies begin on Thursday, October 26.  The Ball runs from October 27 to October 29.

To learn more about the event, I suggest checking out Endless Night's website.  I took a look at it for myself.  From what I read and saw, it looks like it's going to be super fun.  So, if you live in New Orleans, around the area or plan on heading down that way, hit up the Vampire Ball.  Til next time.

Mo Jewelry, Mo Skulls

Hey, readers.  Happy Halloween Month.  I was actually productive this week.  Finished up my project for this month's Craft Along with GIY theme, and made 2 pairs of earrings.  Won't be posting any pics of my project til the end of the month.

So, you'll have to settle for some earring pics instead. =D I made the first pair to go with a necklace that I made for a previous Craft Along theme.

Then, I made these to go with the other black/black and white earrings that I already have.

I also got another 99 cent reusable bag.  This time from Marshalls.  Still haven't figured out if I want to hang them in frames or on canvas yet.

Til next time.

Craft Along with GIY: Stranger Wings

http://gothityourself.blogspot.com/p/craft-along-with-giy.html

Hey, readers.  The time has come to present my latest creations for this month's Craft Along with GIY theme.  This month's theme is Things with Wings.  Staying in my wheelhouse, I crafted a jewelry set that incorporated wing charms.

Here's a close-up of the earrings.

For the second pair of earrings, I moved away from my black, white and silver/black and silver comfort zone, and went white and silver.  I think they came out really well.  What do you think of my latest masterpieces?  Let me know in the comments.  Til next time.

Let's Talk Handbags

Hey, readers.  A few posts ago, I mentioned a band called As Angels Bleed in a list of music recommendations.  Today, I want to focus on the band's lead vocalist, Avelina De Moray.  Not only is she a talented singer, she's also an awesome handbag designer.

Avelina collaborates with well-known youtubers and creates wonderful pieces of handbag art.  So far, only 3 different handbag designs are available.  But there will be more in the future.  I highly recommend checking out her shop.  Below is a video showing the most recent handbag collab that she did with It's Black Friday.  Til next time.

You Skelly?

Hey, readers.  Been pretty chill around here for the past few weeks.  Anyway, I got some new goodies for my bedroom that I wanted to show off.  The first is this reusable shopping bag from Home Goods.  It only costs 99 cents.

The plan is to cut out the design and either frame it or apply it to a piece of canvas and add to it.  Not sure about what to add.  Maybe a glaze.  I have no idea.  But I'll come up with something.

The other thing that I got was a set of sugar skull lights from Rite-Aid.

I'll probably string these along the top of the mirror on the other dresser in my room.  That's it for skull and tell.  Til next time.

Getting There

Hey, readers.  Just wanted to give a little update on how my bedroom is coming along.  Instead of painting the entire room, my mother and I settled on just painting the back wall.  This time, I went with a darker shade of grey instead of a light/silvery grey.  Then, we hung the Bob Macabre prints and Halloween sign.

Once that was done, we decided to add some height to my Trick or Treat sign.

Since I still had some contact paper leftover, we wrapped a spare cardboard box with it and placed it on top of the dresser.  There was plenty of room for the sign, Jack and my new spooky tree.  Speaking of the tree, I got some good news and bad news.  First the bad news.  I wasn't able to fit any of my necklaces on it.

However, my ring and bracelets fit on it perfectly.

Til next time.

Frames and Spooky Goodies

Hey, readers.  In my last blog post, I talked about how my dresser and lamp shade got damaged during the move to the new apartment.  Along with those, the frames containing my Bob Macabre prints also got messed up.  The glass from both frames were smashed to pieces.  But thankfully, the prints were still intact.

I got some new frames last week, and spent yesterday putting the prints in them.

I was able to save the tissue paper that I had used in the old frames.  However, I came across a minor problem.  The print on the right used to be in a smaller frame.  With that one, the green tissue paper in the center was enough to cover the backing that came with it.  To cover up the exposed cardboard box brown backing of the new frame, I got out some more tissue paper and came up with this random pattern.

While I was doing that, my mother had returned from running errands.  During her run, she had stopped in a thrift store and got me a couple of Halloween-themed items to go with my dark bedroom decor.

When she showed them to me, I squeed with delight.  My favorite out of the two was the tree.  It looked like something I might be able to hang my necklaces off of. That would help with making some more room in my small jewelry box.  Til next time.

Minor Touch-Up

Hey, readers.  Welcome back to Aji's Decorating Corner.  If you read my previous post, you'll know that I recently moved.  Most of my bedroom furniture made it here in one piece.  The only items that took some damage were the shade on my small lamp and my dresser.

In this post, I'll be focusing on the dresser.  When it was being moved, some of the black paint on it got scrapped off and some white paint also got scrapped onto it.  I honestly have no idea how the white paint got there.  Originally, I was going to get some black paint and touch-up the damage.  However, after taking a step back and looking at it, I saw that the dresser now had a cool distressed look.

So, I decided to leave the front and sides as is.  However, the top of the dresser just looks like a cat scratched it up.

The good news about where I'm living is that there's a dollar store right down the street.  So, I went there and picked up a roll of patterned contact paper.

The edges of the paper didn't come out as neatly as I wanted.  Maybe I could use washi tape to cover those parts up.  Or something else.  An idea will come to me sooner or later.

For now, the top of the dresser has been taken care of. Next on the to-do list is finally getting around to replacing the old drawer pulls with the glass ones that I got for Christmas.  Til next time.

Settled In

Hey, readers.  We're finally settled into our new apartment.  Now, I can resume my erratic posting schedule.  My next post will be a new installment of Aji's Decorating Corner.  Here's a sneak peek.

Craft Along with GIY: It Takes Two

http://gothityourself.blogspot.com/p/craft-along-with-giy.html

Hey, readers.  Gonna be moving pretty soon.  That means I'll be without internet for a while.  So, I figured I'd post my project for the latest Craft Along with GIY theme while I still had internet access.  This month's theme: It Takes Two.

For this theme, I went with a pair of earrings.  The idea came to me after I got a small pack of skulls from Michael's.

Even though the 2 silver skulls weren't identical (One of them has engraved cracks in it.  The other one doesn't.), I decided to make them into earrings anyway.  Here's the final product.

I worked on these earrings for at least an hour or more.  Mostly because I burned through a bunch of eye pins while working on the second earring. Despite that minor hiccup, the end result came out great.  Til next time.

Welp

Hey, readers.  Got a little bit of good news to share.  After about 3 months of searching, my mother and I found an apartment.  It won't be ready to move into til next month.  So, for the time being, we still gotta put up with my brother and his wife's nonsense.

Once we're moved in, and depending on how I'm feeling, I might bring back Aji's Decorating Corner.  That should help lift my spirits.  Or not.  For the past few weeks, I've been deep in Depression City.  I don't know what the hell my problem is.

I keep finding myself in a constant state of "What the hell am I doing?" and "I fail at being an adult."  I just feel empty and lost.  On top of that, I also mostly feel like a big waste of space. Maybe I'll start to feel better after we move.  Maybe not.

Til whenever.

For Your Listening Pleasure

Hey, readers.  Hope you all had a good World Goth Day.  I spent mine trying to rid myself of the remainder of a cold that I have been suffering from for the last couple of weeks.  Now that I'm starting to feel a bit better, I wanted to offer up some cool music recommendations.

  • Esoterik: A band from Oklahoma City driven by synth-pop and darkwave.
  • As Angels Bleed: A gothic-symphonic metal band that hails from Sydney, Australia. The band is heavily influenced by vampire images and themes.
  • Jess-O-Lantern: A New York artist with an acoustic horrorpunk sound.
  • Night Spirit: Also from New York, Night Spirit is a power metal band with a supernatural twist.
Those are my recommendations.  Hope you find something that you like out of the list.  Now, back to trying to shake off my hacking cough.  Til next time.

Craft Store Run

Hey, readers.  Since my niece has a birthday coming up this weekend, I decided to make her some jewelry.  Yesterday, my mother went to Michael's and bought some charms.  After I checked out the charms she got, I decided to make a necklace out of one of them and a charm bracelet with the rest.  So today, I went to A.C. Moore to get some more jewelry essentials for the task.

I ended up getting some chain in a gun metal finish, a pack of necklace cords and some pink beads.  Pink is one of my niece's favorite colors.  If I remember, I'll post some pics of the finished products on my instagram page.  Since she's too young to have any social media accounts, I don't have to worry about her seeing them before her birthday. XD Til next time.

Ugh

Hey, readers.  Some good news.  Over the weekend, my mother got my jewelry supplies out of storage.  Now, some bad news.  When I opened the bag, I saw that the majority of the beads, earring hooks, etc. had fallen out of the container and were scattered all over the bottom of the bag.

So, I ended up spending most of Sunday resorting and putting everything back the way it was.  After that mess was taken care of, I taped up the sides of the container to ensure that none of my supplies would fall out again.  Was your weekend more interesting or just as uneventful as mine was?  Let me know in the comments.  Til next time.

Pop Goes the Skellington

Hey, readers.  A few days ago, I decided to check out the comic book store that's across the street from my brother's apartment.  Once I entered the store, I immediately noticed the wall full of pop figurines.  Sadly, they didn't have any Rocky Horror ones.  But as I looked down towards the bottom, I saw a few Nightmare Before Christmas figurines.

Naturally, I had to go with Jack.  He's my favorite skeleton.  I always found Jack to be cute.  Especially when he's smiling.

Once I scrounge up enough money, I'm going to get Sally next.  Can't break up a couple.  Til next time.

Nomading About

Hey, readers.  It's life update time.  Due to shady landlord shenanigans, my mother and I had to vacate the premises.  We're currently staying with family til we can find a new place to live.  So, Aji's Decorating Corner will definitely be on hiatus.

I've only been here a week, and I'm already going crazy.  Since the apartment my family lives in is small, I had to leave my bag of craft supplies in our storage unit so we wouldn't take up too much space.  This majorly sucks.  I hate leaving my things in storage.  Especially since we lost a majority of our stuff twice over the years with this damn storage company.

I'm still salty about it.  Family photos, my high school yearbook, and other personal belongings.  Gone.  It feels like part of me is missing.  If we lose our things for a third time, I think I'm going to crack.

That's enough venting for today.  Hopefully, my next post will be less of a downer.  Til next time.

Craft Along with GIY: Another Challenge Met

http://gothityourself.blogspot.com/p/craft-along-with-giy.html

Hey, readers.  It's the end of March, and I have completed another project for Craft Along with GIY.  This month's theme is Rhymes with "that".  Meaning I had to create something that rhymes with the word "that".  After spending most of the month brainstorming, I decided to make a "Fab Bat" bracelet.

The best part about this bracelet is that the letters glow in the dark.  It will keep me safe while jogging at night. XD  Leave a comment if you get the reference.  Til next time.

Who You Gonna Call?

Definitely not a pair of unlicensed and semi-illegal ghost hunters.  That's what the webcomic, A Ghost Story, is based aroundFollow Maxine and Jack as they exterminate ghosts while also causing citywide chaos and panic.  So far, I've only read the first chapter.  But I can already tell that it's going to be a fun read.

My next post will be about my latest project for this month's Craft Along with GIY theme.  You can expect that one at the end of the month.  Til next time.

So.....?

Hey, readers.  Been spending the last few days trying to come up with something to make for this month's Craft Along with GIY theme.  Other than that, nothing much has been going on with me.  But what about you?  How's your weekend been shaping up?

Let me know in the comments.  Til next time.

Craft Along with GIY: Challenge Accepted

http://gothityourself.blogspot.com/p/craft-along-with-giy.html

Hey, readers.  I did it.  I threw my hat in the ring, and took part in Craft Along with GIY.  The theme for this month is letters and numbers.  After 2 years of it sitting amongst my craft supplies, I finally made use of my letter A pendant.

Since I was out of silver chains and limited on silver wire, I had no idea how I was going to turn this thing into a necklace.  After a lot of overthinking and checking out necklace designs online, I decided to make it out of beads and eye pins.  Normally, I only used eye pins for earrings and small necklace details.  However, I put my paranoid fears aside and went for it.  Voila!

Craft Along with GIY Project: Complete.  Til next time.

Quick Update

Hey, readers.  Blogger's block has set in again.  I've been spending most of my time lurking online, getting nit-picky with my outfit customizing on second life, and trying to think up a new jewelry making project for this month's Craft Along with GIY theme.  All and all, the past couple of weeks have been uninteresting.

Before I end this post, I would like to pose a question to you all.  What do you think about these kind of blog posts?  Ones where I just talk about myself and what I'm up to.  I try to keep posts like these to a minimum because I feel like people aren't really interested in them.  In my opinion, posts like these are a nice break from the pressure of trying to post about only goth/alternative things.

Let me know in the comments.  Til next time.

Rearranging and Earring Making

Hey, readers.  In my last post, I talked about and showed off a jewelry set that I had recently made.  Late last night, I took a look at the necklace from it and realized that I wasn't that crazy about the placement of the bead work.  So, I took the necklace apart and changed the placement of it.  Here's what the necklace use to look like.

And here's what it looks like now.

I removed 2 of the split rings that I used to attach the first chain to the key pendant and just ran the chain through it.  Next, I added the bead work to the chain ends.  Then, I reattached the second chain.  Since, I could easily put the necklace on by pulling it over my head, I removed the toggle clasp.  This simple design fix makes the piece look so much better.

Today, I was in another jewelry creating mood.  So, I decided to make some more earrings.

Another productive day in the bin. How's your week been going so far?  Let me know in the comments.  Til next time.

Another Late Night Handmade Jewelry Post

I'm on a roll!

If the bracelet looks familiar, that's because I posted about it before in my "A Simple Fix" post.  I swapped out the keys that I had on it with the key charms that I got from A.C. Moore.  Also, to make it more sturdy, I removed the old jump rings and replaced them with split rings.  Another jewelry set to add to my collection.  Pretty soon, I'm going to run out of room in my jewelry box.

Til next time.
